AN award-winning butcher’s tasty sausages have helped a charity keep the elderly warm over the winter.

Walter Rose & Son in Sidmouth Street, Devizes, raised £200 for the Wiltshire Community Foundation’s Surviving Winter appeal by selling a spicy Winter Warmer sausage at its store and online.

The butcher donated 30 per cent of profits from the sausages, which are filled with pork reared at Cameron Naughton’s farm at Bishops Cannings, near Devizes, and flavoured with a combination of chipotle, jalapeño and Indian chilli peppers and herbs.

The appeal, which ran from October to January and helps those in fuel poverty by giving them a £300 donation towards their heating bills, raised almost £80,000 and helped 384 people.

Jack Cook of Walter Rose said: “We were delighted to help the appeal because it does such a fantastic job and really helps people who need it. The sausages are very popular with our customers. We are always looking to come up with something different.”

Rosemary Macdonald, chief executive of the Wiltshire Community Foundation, said: “We had wonderful support from all kinds of businesses, including Wadworth and Sprout in Devizes, this year, which helped us to assist more people than ever before.

“Walter Rose & Son is another perfect example of a business which cares about its community and we are very grateful for the way it backed us.”

Walter Rose & Son has just been awarded ‘runner-up’ in best Medium-sized Enterprise in the county in last week’s Wiltshire Business Awards – The fourth generation, family-run business is delighted to have been able to give back to the local community in this way.
