THE sale of a giant poo emoji donated by TV comedian Dom Joly has raised hundreds of pounds for a vital Swindon hospital service.

The star of Channel 4's Trigger Happy TV offered up the novelty item after having to turn down the chance to visit Great Western Hospital earlier this month for a Sleep Apnoea Day event.

Dom Joly, 51, was approached by GWH nurse Samantha Backway as the star himself suffers with sleep problems.

He put the poo emoji up for sale on Ebay, netting £501 after receiving 32 bids. The money will be split between GWH and charity Hope2Sleep. On Ebay, he wrote: "This is a one-of-a-kind giant poo emoji, which was used in Trigger Happy. Standing at about 5ft tall, it has holes in it so that you can wear it as often as you like."

Sleep apnoea nurse Samantha Backway said of the cash: “We’ll probably put the money towards diagnostic equipment."
