And the news isn't a great deal better for people living in the Wiltshire Council area (see below)

This Is Wiltshire:

Wiltshire Council is ranked a little higher than Swindon for the proportion of waste recycled - it makes it to 148th in the rankings with 44 per cent recycled.

But people in Wiltshire create more waste than most other places in the country.

With 424KG of rubbish per person, Wiltshire sits in 275th place out of 353.

Nearby, South Oxfordshire District Council was ranked top of 67 councils in the south east and third best in the country, based on the proportion of its rubbish that residents recycle.

The worst place in the country is Newham in London, which only recycles 14.1 per cent of its rubbish.

And the very best is East Riding of Yorkshire Council, with 64.5 per cent.

Firm InSinkErator looked at data from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

The company said that despite the positive results, more could still be done to cut down on the amount of waste sent to landfill.

It highlighted the issue of food waste in particular - 20 per cent of which is still being thrown away.
