A NEW mayor for Trowbridge has been elected into office.
Former deputy mayor, Cllr David Cavill was elected as mayor for the coming year at an annual town meeting in the Civic on Tuesday evening.
He is taking over from previous mayor Dennis Drewitt, who described the past year as a pleasure.
Leader of the town council Cllr Peter Fuller was elected as deputy mayor for the current year.
Cllr Stewart Palmen was also nominated and both candidates had nine votes each, meaning the new mayor had the casting vote.
New mayor Cllr Cavill said: "First of all thank you to Dennis who has been an excellent mayor throughout the year, I know as I haven't had to do very much at all as deputy.
"Secondly, to my fellow councillors, thank you very much for electing me. This is much more of an honour for me than any of you could imagine.
"I greatly look forward to working with the team."
