We asked YOU for the best places in Swindon to buy a pie. Here's what you told us...

Crumps, Royal Wootton Bassett

This Is Wiltshire:

CRUMP'S Butchers seems to be the best spot in the area to grab a pie - at least according to Adver readers.

Karen Goldup called the Royal Wootton Bassett shop the "one and only" spot in town to buy the pastry snack.

Siobhan Ellis said: "Oh man, definitely Crump of Wootton Bassett. The steak and stilton pie is amazing."

Certainly, the High Street shop has an enviable list of award-winning pies, stuffed with everything from steak and kidney to duck and orange.

Crumps café is next door to the butchers' shop for those in need of a caffeine kick.

Andrew Hiscock, Purton

This Is Wiltshire:

PURTON-based Andrew Hiscock butchers are top of Alison Taylor's pie list.

She said the shop, on The Parade, also sold "delicious quiches"

Others have praised Hiscock's meat.

Describing the meat as "bloody marvellous", one Facebook reviewer said: "The shop may not be just around the corner, you might have to pass the supermarket, but once you give up the supermarket and delve into the real McCoy, you'll wonder why you didn't before."

Others praised the shop's friendly staff and sage advice.

O'Grady's Café, Gorse Hill

This Is Wiltshire:

O'GRADY'S Café in Gorse Hill will sell you some of the quirkiest pies you've seen this side of Bristol.

In recent months, the Cricklade Road joint has offered up BBQ spare rib and mushroom pies slathered with cheese and vegan cauliflower and broccoli cheese pies topped with potato, spring onion and red pepper.

The café got Alan Coxhead's seal of approval. On Facebook, Alan approved of the fact the pies are "all homemade".

Other social media reviewers have raved about the pies. One man wrote: "The pies have so much meat in them a family member could not eat it all in one sitting."

Hart's, Cricklade

This Is Wiltshire:

FOR Sam Atd you can't get better than a steak and Guinness pie from Hart's butchers in Cricklade

On Facebook, Sam used a simple emoji to describe his love for the shop's pies. The image he used? A thumb and forefinger pressed together in the traditional symbol for "good".

Tracey Brooker lent her vote of confidence to Cricklade and Circencester-based butchers Michael Hart & Son.

As well as the traditional meat pies, the butchers have made turkey and apple varieties.

The shop made special Beef Wellingtons for Valentine's Day - with a pastry heart on top.

Indy's Vegan Kitchen, Swindon town centre

This Is Wiltshire:

LOOKING for a pie with a difference? Indy's Vegan Kitchen has started selling meat-free pies.

The selection is based around old fashioned favourites, like chicken or steak. But it's not meat in the pies, but Quorn-like alternatives.

Kelz Clarkson said the pop-up shop in The Crossing, Brunel Shopping Centre, had "amazing pies available". Claire O'Connor concurred, also describing the pastry treats as "amazing".

In March, our food reviewer raved about Indy's. The kitchen might not have converted him to veganism, he wrote, but he would be back.

"Its menu might ape traditional ‘meaty’ streetfood – but it’s anything but a pale imitation," he said.
