THE brief description pencilled on the back of this photograph from the Adver’s archive says simply: “Building at Regent Circus.”

The clothing worn by the people and the models and registration plates of the cars suggest the picture was taken no later than the early 1960s.

And the building under construction by local firm EW Beard Ltd?

Unless we are very much mistaken, it is currently home to a branch of Virgin Money, having had many other occupiers down the years.

The shop premises on the right seem to have been among those cleared to make way for the Theatre Square development.
