THERE was the whiff of blue smoke and the purring of some classic four stroke engines as a convoy of period cars took a leisurely 70 mile tour of the county last Sunday.

The classic cars gathered at Calne Leisure Centre Car park for a bacon butty before setting off and stopping for refreshments at the Goss Croft Hall at Seagry and then onto Winsley for lunch and time to enjoy the beautiful gardens of Dorothy House.

Sue Peskett joint president of Rotary Club of Calne said: "It was a true Calne community event with help from the Calne Lions, Marden Belles WI and Friends of Calne Rotary.

"The car run also featured much loved teddy bears and dogs in some of the cars. Half the proceeds will go to Dorothy House and the remainder to local Rotary charities.

Don Kennedy at Dorothy House said they were delighted to be a chosen charity by Calne Rotarians. Rotarian Kate Tompkins said: “The Mayor Cllr Robert Merrick waved the flag at the start of the rally and drove his Mazda MX5 right round the route.”
