IT’S the centre of Swindon, but not as we know it.

In fact, it’s the town centre as nobody remembers it unless they’re well on the way to their 100th birthday.

According to some scant details written on the back of the image, it was taken in 1929.

If that is the case, the clearly-visible Regent Cinema - now the Savoy pub - had opened only recently.

The building beyond the bus is the old main Post Office, and the greenery to the left seems to have been part of the approach to the Town Hall.

Aside from the old cinema building, hardly anything in the photograph remains as it was on that day nine decades ago.
