A YOUNG schoolgirl who lost her grandparents to cancer will have her long hair chopped off to raise cash for charity.

Isabelle Hunt, 7, has never been to a hair salon before but she wants to take the plunge later this month and ‘help poorly little girls feel special’.

She hopes to raise £550 for the Little Princess Trust, a charity which makes wigs with real hair.

Proud mother Lindsay said: “It’s incredible. Isabelle is the most compassionate little girl and we are incredibly proud.

“She said she wanted to donate a foot of her hair to provide children who have lost their hair through cancer and other illnesses with real hair wigs.

“One day she came to me and asked if she could donate her hair. It was a little while ago, but we decided to do it this month.

“She has also never been in a hair salon, but Oli at Goldsworthy’s Swindon Salon has said he will make Isabelle feel like an absolute princess and give her the full salon treatment. She is so excited.”

Isabelle added: “I want to help poorly little girls feel special.”

The Shaw Ridge Primary School pupil has raised more than £250 through her JustGiving page and thanks to the help of her family and neighbours.

Her effort also reflects Isabelle’s personal story after she lost her grandmother Ann Wilson in 2011 and her grandfather Gerry Hunt in 2014 – both to Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Lindsay said: “Isabelle has lost two of her grandparents. She has some understanding because she witnessed it, even if she was very little. She was only two when her grampy passed away but she would rub his back and comfort him.

“She knows that cancer can make people very poorly and that the treatment can make them lose their hair, she has seen pictures of her nanny without any hair and also pictures of her wearing a wig.

“She is very aware that cancer can take people away from her. She believes that her nanny and grampy are angels in heaven and they have their own stars in the sky."

Isabelle’s move has inspired her younger sister Sienna, 5.

Lindsay said: “She wants to do exactly the same, but we want to wait a bit until she gets longer hair. And it wouldn’t surprise if my three-year-old daughter Genevieve wants to do the same.”
