A LONDON man was arrested in Wiltshire yesterday on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Officers received a report of a man acting suspiciously in the Marlborough area. The man was found to be in possession of approximately 40 bags of suspected class A drugs believed to be cocaine, £100 cash and a mobile phone.

The 27-year-old from London attempted to escape from officers but was detained and arrested on the A4.

He was taken to custody at Gablecross for further questioning and was later released under investigation in relation to the drug offence and further arrested on suspicion of immigration offences, for which he was released on conditional bail.

A/ Insp Pete Foster said: “This is yet another example of how important information from the community is. We rely on the public being our eyes and ears – unfortunately, we do not have resources to every street corner at any one time, so the public play an important role in helping to keep our communities safe.

“We will act on information that we receive, and I am pleased that this had led to a successful arrest.”

Anyone who suspects drug activity is asked to call Wiltshire Police 101.
