Sophie Elms, Britain’s youngest female paedophile

Elms was 18 when was convicted of molesting two young girls. But the Royal Wootton Bassett teen was 16 when she began offending.

The nursery worker filmed the abuse on her mobile phone, sending it to another paedophile.

She was sentenced in January to seven years and 10 months imprisonment. The sentence was reported under the ULS scheme, but was not referred to the Court of Appeal.

Valentino Fernandes, cruel husband who showed no remorse

Fernandes made his wife live upstairs, denied her food, abused her in the street and suggested she sell her body for £3. She was so scared of her husband that she refused to leave her room to use the toilet, so fearful was she of the man’s violence.

The 54-year-old was found guilty by a jury in April of controlling behaviour. The Goan, who arrived in the UK in 2016, was told his behaviour had been abhorrent. He was jailed for two years, suspended for 24 months.

Not referred, as the charge is not in the ULS scheme.

Jakub Chmurak, a thug who held stun gun to wife’s neck

In a terrifying attack, 34-year-old Chmurak held a stun gun to his estranged wife’s neck and told her: “If I switch it on now you will die.” She was also threatened with knives and strangled.

The Pole pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was jailed for 14 months, suspended for two years.

Not referred.

Darren Brazier, one million abuse picture pervert

Paedophile Brazier started his new collection of a million indecent images of children while on a suspended sentence for the same offence.

But the 36-year-old was spared jail, after a judge heard he had sought help in the 17 months since his latest arrest. He was sentenced to 22 months imprisonment, suspended for two years.

Not referred, as the charge is not in the ULS scheme.

Jamaal Mortimer and Jordan Huby, Grange Park stab attack

Thugs Mortimer and Huby left a young man fighting for his life in a planned late-night stabbing in Grange Park in July 2018. The victim lost eight pints of blood and suffered a collapsed lung.

Mortimer, 22, had previous convictions for knifepoint robberies and was sentenced to six years and eight months. Huby, 19, who repeatedly kicked the victim in the face as he lay prone on the ground, received the same sentence.

The case was not referred to the Attorney General, although suitable under the ULS scheme.

James Gowland, bungling corner shop armed robber

Alcoholic Gowland, 31, tied a scarf around his face and pulled his hood over his head before he charged into Ermin Food and Wine, waving an imitation pistol and demanding cash.

But the Twickenham Close man, who was trying to get money to pay a drug debt, ended up having the pistol held against his own head, after a group rushed into the shop and knocked Gowland to the floor.

He was sentenced to two years and ten months. Not referred.

Mark Robson, Old Town paedophile

Paedophile Mark Robson scoured the internet for vile images of children being abused. The 44-year-old typed search terms including “five-year-old raped” and “girls drink vomit”.

He pleaded guilty to six counts of making indecent images of children and one of possessing extreme pornography. He was sentenced to 22 months imprisonment, but the Swindon judge suspended the sentence for a period of two years after hearing Robson had mental health issues and probation officers could work with him to tackle his offending.

The sentence could not be appealed as unduly lenient, as the charges are not included in the ULS scheme.

Kieran Broderick, dealing drugs from the family home

Drug dealing dad Broderick was warned by a judge he was playing Russian roulette with his children. After admitting cocaine possession with intent to supply and possession of cocaine and cannabis, the 34-year-old was facing three years inside.

But Judge Robert Pawson instead gave him six months to clean up his act, telling the father-of-two: "If you go to prison the effect on them is going to be staggering, and that is utterly down to you."

His sentence was deferred. The sentence was not referred.

Christopher Duggan, the wrong-way M4 drunk driver

Soldier Duggan diced with death when he drove his Saab 900 in darkness on the wrong side of a snow-covered M4 motorway. Cars and lorries were forced to swerve out of the way.

The 28-year-old lance corporal was drunk following a night out in Royal Wootton Bassett. But after hearing the soldier would be drummed out the army if he was jailed, a Swindon judge opted to suspend the sentence.

Duggan pleaded guilty to drink driving and was given 10 months imprisonment, suspended for a year. The sentence could not be sent to the court of appeal as the charge does not fall into the ULS scheme.

Joseph Browne, hunting knife belly stabber

19-year-old Browne plunged a 15 inch hunting style knife into the abdomen of his victim in the car park of a Calne social club last November.

The attack left Browne’s victim, 21, in a coma and permanent injuries. He was found guilty of GBH at Swindon Crown Court in May and jailed for four years and two months.

Not referred, as the charge is not in the ULS scheme.
