THE driver of a 4x4 vehicle feels he was lucky to escape injury after his steering failed while he was negotiating the roundabout at Yarnbrook on the A350 early this morning.
"I was coming round when the steering went completely, and all I could do was brake and steer onto the pavement, in an attempt not to block the roundabout," Phil Burgess said.
His car came to rest with its nose against a garden wall, which was not damaged, and he then had to wait for it to be recovered.
Police attended to help keep traffic flowing and to make sure Mr Burgess was not hurt.
The incident cause long tailbacks and affected commuter traffic, but the vehicle was recovered by about 10am.
