A SHOPPING centre is taking place in a nationwide event this weekend.

Churchill Square, in Brighton, is one of 200 centres across the UK taking part in One Great Day, today.

One Great Day is a series of family and community charity events being held throughout the month to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, and other locally based children’s health charities.

Participating shopping centres will provide a special event or family fun day for local communities across the UK, while raising money for a number of causes.

As well as Great Ormond Street Hospital, Churchill Square will also be fundraising for local children’s charity, Rockinghorse. The Brighton-based organisation has been supporting children for more than 50 years since being set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann, who recognised there was a real need for additional resources to improve healthcare services for sick children.

Working in partnership with local hospitals, respite centres and specialist services, Rockinghorse funds projects which focus on improving children’s physical and emotional well-being, while providing additional support services for parents and carers.

Mark Buchanan-Smith, centre director of Churchill Square, said: “This One Great Day event is a great way to start the summer. Hosting an event like this is a really fun way to give something back to support the wonderful work of Rockinghorse and Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, which supports patients and families from across the UK.”

“It is an event that has fantastic energy and brings our community together while raising money for charity. Families in the area get to enjoy a fun day out - and it’s all for a good cause.”

Michal Noe, Trustee of One Great Day, said: “We are thrilled to have Churchill Square as one of 200 shopping centres taking part this year, helping so many children’s health charities across the country.”

One Great Day was established in 2014 and has so far raised more than £500,000 for 113 different children’s charities.
