A TIME capsule holding information about the many events staged in Devizes last autumn to mark 100 years since the end of the first world war is to be buried in the town.

An exhibition is to be held in The Shambles in Devizes Market Place on June 28 and 29 from 10am to 2pm to exhibit some of the work carried out last October and November.

The exhibition date of June 28 was felt fitting as it coincides with the signing of The Treaty of Versailles which was the most important of the peace treaties that brought the war to and end.

A spokesman for Devizes Town Council said: “Last year there were a lot of things that happened in the town to commemorate World War 1.

“After Remembrance Sunday a working group was formed to pull together information about what had been done for the 100 years commemoration.”

At the exhibition members of the Royal British Legion and town council will be on hand to talk to members of the public about their favourite memories of last year. The town’s efforts included giant poppies and a sand picture
