A DRIVER accused of murdering a Falklands veteran will be held in custody until a plea hearing in September.

Watford Tarkan Agca, 23, of Crusader Way, is said to have killed former Royal Marines sergeant major Andrzej Szruta in a hit-and-run on the A303 near Solstice Park last Friday.

His case came before Judge Peter Blair QC at Bristol Crown Court today. Agca was not present at the hearing.

Kevin Molloy, for Agca, made no bail application and his client was remanded into custody. He is due before Winchester Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on September 13.

In a tribute released by Mr Szruta’s family, the 63-year-old was said to have been travelling to a race car experience day with his son Christian, 32.

"Prior to the incident, Andy was travelling to London with his wife and daughter to visit Christian and his fiancée for the weekend. Christian had organised a surprise belated birthday day out, a father and son race car experience day, which sadly they did not get the opportunity to enjoy,” the family said.
