Members of Swindon Borough Council will be getting up to speed on managing the work they do in their wards for constituents.

And they will be better at Tweeting it, or putting it on Facebook, and Instagram.

Two training sessions have been arranged for councillors this month. The first is managing ward work and the second is social media skills.

The first is aimed at new councillors who won seats at the May 2 elections who have been in post for just two months – there were eight new members elected, six Conservatives and two Labour.

As well as voting in full council meetings and sitting on committees that make or oversee decisions that can affect the whole borough or a specific area, councillors are expected to take the concerns of residents in their ward and help to get action from officers.

The second session on social media skills is also aimed at longer-standing, and older councillors, who might not be up to speed using sites such a Facebook and Twitter.
