EXCITEMENT is building across Trowbridge, as the first in a new series of monthly artisan markets comes to the town centre on Saturday.

Taking over Fore Street, Market Street and the Town Hall, the Trowbridge Weavers Market will be a celebration of creativity, community and local independent traders.

The name is both a nod to the town’s heritage and a reflection of the market’s aim to bring all groups of people together.

Entry is free and Market Street will be closed to traffic, allowing visitors to come and go freely, enjoy some live music and tuck in to street food as they shop for unique gifts and products, along with handcrafted drinks, sauces, cakes and more.

Timed to run alongside the popular Active Festival which will be happening in Trowbridge Park, the market’s launch means there will be something for everyone in Trowbridge on July 13 and the town is expected to be busy.

The market will then return on the second Saturday of each month, August 10, September 14 and October 12, before taking a break for the winter.

Councillor Stewart Palmen, Chairman of the group organising the market said: “We are a community group who’ve been working hard on these markets for some time now.

"Our vision is to bring quality traders, creative people and the local community together for a regular monthly event in the heart of Trowbridge town centre.

"It’ll be a fun event for everyone to enjoy and a great chance to pick up some fantastic food and some incredible handcrafted products.

"We have updated our website with full information about the market and we will showcase some of our awesome traders on our social media channels.

“We’re very excited about these events and think everyone else will be too.

“Put the dates in your in your diaries because you are not going to want to miss out.”

The team hope that this year’s series of four markets is just the beginning.

Mr Palmen added: “We absolutely plan on being back next year and for a long time to come - but we can only do that if our first ‘season’ is popular with the public.

"With that in mind, we really invite everyone to come along and make sure they bring their wallets and purses with them on July 13th. See you there."

The markets are also an opportunity for local artisans, creators and traders to sell their goods.
