DEVIZES will be alive with the sound of music on Saturday when a free concert takes place in the Market Place after months of organising.

The Fulltone Festival will start at 1pm with a performance by a junior choir and finish nine hours later after a grand finale of Ibiza anthems.

Organiser Jemma Brown said: "It is a huge free event and is all run by volunteers. It has never been done on this scale before in Devizes."

She said the mammoth performance would showcase The Market Place as an arena for outdoor music and bring the community together.

She said: "I hope hundreds of people will bring a chair and set up to watch throughout the day." The event has been made possible by grants and donations of £10,000. Devizes Area Board gave £5,000 and the town council has given its full backing.

Mrs Brown said: "We at the Fulltone Orchestra and the Fulltone Music School are passionate about all genres of music, be it vocal or instrumental. We are extremely excited to present the first Fulltone Music Festival to our audience in Devizes on July 20.

"Our greatest wish is to impassion everyone about music by making it accessible to all and demonstrating that orchestral and choral music is really not about stuffy concert halls playing Wagner to middle aged audiences."

The festival will comprise four full sets: A Family Set, to be opened by the children from the Fulltone Music School, and the Fulltone Orchestra, joined by soprano Chloe Jordan; a Movie Set; Rock and Pop Classics, which include a huge Queen set performed by members of The Invitation Theatre Company, and finally Electronic featuring music from the ‘70s right up to Ibiza anthems.

Mrs Brown said: "We want people to find somewhere to watch and make themselves comfortable. Grab some food or drink from our fabulous stall holders, sit and soak up the atmosphere, or even get up and dance, sing along and enjoy our awesome light show as the sun sets."
