Thousands tried out new activity skills at the Trowbridge Summer Active Festival

Taking place at Trowbridge Town Park, the one-day free event on Saturday July 13 attracted more than 10,000 people of all ages - from the very young to the elderly.

They were all able to take part in a wide variety of activities designed to entertain, provide physical activity and offer some fun in the sun.

Among the visitors were Corinne Coxhead, 38, from St Mary’s Close in Hilperton, with her two daughters, Lilly, 12, and Grace, four.

Mrs Coxhead said: “We’ve tried the bouncy castle, the wall and the indoor maze, and we’ve made a house from boxes.

“Lilly has been doing baton twirling and circus skills, and Grace enjoyed the craft skills.

“It has been fantastic. The children have had a lovely time and it’s fantastic that it’s all free.”

Hayley Bell of organisers Active Trowbridge said: “It has been a huge success and the biggest festival that we have held to date.

"The weather was lovely and the feedback from the local community has been really positive.

"Many of the people that attended stayed all day, which was great, and we'd like to thank the exhibitors and residents for supporting us.

"We are now urging local sports clubs and businesses to contact us for next year's festival, which is being held on July 11 2020 and will tie in with next year's Tokyo Olympics.”

The many attractions on offer included a giant water slide, a climbing wall (WOLT), go-karts, and demonstrations by Trowbridge Squash Club, Staverton Rangers, the West Wiltshire Gymnastics Club.

There was also a Hot Chili Triathlon, and stalls and activities organised by the Avon Valley Runners, Trowbridge Rugby Football Club, the Moroccan Community Association, Trowbridge Basketball Club, Trowbridge Town Youth Football.

Children enjoyed a range of inflatables featuring a pirate ship, a tree house slide, human table football, colour maze, rodeo rugby ball and a bootcamp.

Food and drink stalls included noodles, the Kalahari Kitchen and Purbeck Ice Cream.
