DETECTIVES investigating the early hours stabbing of a Swindon minicab driver have released a man under investigation.

Wiltshire Police arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after the incident on Saturday, June 15, in Park North.

A spokeswoman for the force confirmed the man had answered police bail this week and had been released under investigation while a police probe into the stabbing continued.

The minicab driver suffered slash wounds in the incident, which took place at around 5.30am.

The driver, who had to be taken to Southmead Hospital, Bristol, had picked up three revellers from the Suju nightclub in Old Town. As he drove them towards Park North, the two men and a woman became abusive and the driver ended the fare. Police said the group had argued, with one of the men accused of stabbing the driver in the leg and torso.

Det Sgt Adrian Bray described the incident as an unprovoked attack on someone simply doing his job.
