Runners at Swindon’s parkrun came out in force to show support for Swindon’s Half Marathon.

About 100 runners in Lydiard Park donned T-shirts from previous half marathons to encourage people to enter this year's event.

Organisers say the 2019 race will be the last due to high costs and insufficient entrants.

Swindon parkrun event director Emma Sperring said: “We had a great crowd of parkrunners who turned up in their previous marathon tops.

"The support for the half marathon is phenomenal amongst our parkrun community. Lots of people were talking about the importance of having the half marathon for the town, and showing their support for it via social media as well.

“The parkrun community really wants this to continue. It is something that many of them train towards each week.

“Hopefully a company out there will see how much the town wants the marathon and help us host one in the future.”
