A WEATHER warning has been issued for thunderstorms overnight. 

The Met Office has put out a yellow warning for thunder and lightning from 6pm until 8am tomorrow. 

Forecasters are also warning of possible hailstorms, strong winds and possible power cuts following the storm, which comes amid a heatwave across the country.

The warning area covers large swathes of the country, including Wiltshire, with a large band of rain moving across the region visible on the Met Office's detailed forecast map.

Rain is currently forecast for large parts of Wiltshire from around 9pm to 1am, according to the Met Office. 

It comes as temperatures soar to around 35C this week, with a record UK temperature for July possible on Thursday.

The Met Office says the storms will move north through the evening, and should be over by tomorrow's rush hour.
