LOCAL candidate Carolyn King triumphed as the Liberal Democrats held the Westbury North Ward seat to become the new Wiltshire councillor following David Jenkins' resignation.
She won by 257 votes as five candidates contested the local by-election on July 18.
The full results were: Carole King (Liberal Democrat) 488 votes, Ian Cunningham (Independent) 231 votes, Antonio Piazza (Conservatives) 140 votes, Jane Russ (Labour) 57 votes and Francis Morland (Independent) 16 votes.
Four ballot papers were spoilt and the turnout was 24.43 per cent. Only 936 ballot papers were issued out of a potential electorate of 3,831.
