CREWS from Trowbridge, Corsham, Devizes and Calne rushed to an incident involving a property in Melksham earlier this evening Saturday August 17 after fears that people were trapped inside.
Fire Control received a call at 6.10pm from the ambulance service reporting that one of their crews had seen smoke issuing from an address in West End, Melksham.
Crews from Trowbridge, Corsham, Devizes and Calne were mobilised due to it being unclear if persons were still inside the property.
On a arrival the crews found there had been a small fire in a kitchen involving paper on top of a cooker.
A fire officer said: "Our shout yesterday in Melksham was caused by letters left on a hob, luckily a visitor to the building dealt with it by dowsing in the sink leaving me to discover an ‘out on arrival ‘ fire and stood down all oncoming appliances for their availability elsewhere."
