A MONKEY riding a BMX is set to turn a few heads in Devizes but the novelty biker is raising money for a serious cause.

Darren Collier is doing the cycle from Northolt to Truro to raise funds so a charity can be set up in honour of his son Joseph James Collier who was born at just 23 weeks gestation.

His wife Kay said: “With Joseph being born before 24 weeks, he cannot be registered and therefore does not exist in this world.

“With no registration, there is no registered death. There is no trace of him on our family tree. We want to change the options available and raise funds to set up a registered charity - Rest With Joseph.”

Mr Collier in his monkey costume will cycle to Truro via Slough, Reading, Newbury, Devizes and Bath and then on into Devon and then through the family’s home town of St Austell and finish at Truro Teliske Hospital.

He is due to arrive in Devizes either Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. Mrs Collier said: “He is hoping to cycle about 70 to 80 miles a day.”
