DEVIZES Food Bank has been given a £1,000 boost after a restaurant donated 50p from every sale of its special Marlborough pudding.

The pudding at Rick Stein restaurant in Marlborough was originally famous in New England in the USA after being taken over from Wiltshire by the Pilgrim Fathers in the 17th century.

Head Chef Kev Chandler, and General Manager Kevin Cole presented the cheque to Project Manager Liz Starling from Devizes & District Food Bank.

Mr Chandler said: “The pudding is a great celebration of our heritage and has been very popular with our guests. With their support it’s wonderful to be able to donate our first cheque to the local food bank.”

Ms Starling said: “We’re thrilled to have the support of Rick Stein, Marlborough and it’s amazing that such a great amount of money has been raised already.”

The pudding is a tart of Bramley apple, eggs and cream, dry sherry, cinnamon and nutmeg, with Italian meringue and custard.
