WILTSHIRE Police offered advice to holidaymakers going away for the bank holiday weekend.
The force issued top tips on Twitter to keep people's homes and possessions secure from burglars.
They suggested cancelling any newspaper or milk deliveries for the time they are away from home and use a timer to set lights which mimic activity at the home while no-one is there.
Consider installing a burglar alarm, and only use a company that is registered or certified with the NSI or the SSIAB.
Ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on the house and they could even park their car on your driveway.
Make sure all doors and windows are shut and locked. This includes sheds, garages and other outbuildings. Keep ladders and tools locked away - don't make it easy for thieves to enter the property
Mark valuable items that have your postcode or take photos, or register the property on the national property database. Avoid discussing holiday plans on social media.
