Engineers working on a burst main in Abbey Meads could keep the road closed for several days.

Thames Water said the cause of the leak on Shepperton Way, near the Orbital Centre, on Monday night was not yet known.

A spokesman for Thames Water said: “We’re sorry to anyone impacted by a burst to 23-inch diameter pipe. We’ve put in a temporary road closure to allow the work to be carried out safely and aim to have it open again as soon as possible.”

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service control room received a call about flooding in the road at 10.35pm on Monday. An officer was sent to the scene to assess the damage and the incident was left in the hands of the water board.

None of the homes in roads flanking Shepperton Way were flooded, Thames Water said. It was not possible to say what volume of water had leaked.
