A BUSINESS owner spoke out about fears in the town after a betting shop armed robbery in Chippenham on Saturday.

Cash was handed to the gunman at Coral Racing on New Road, after the staff member, believed to be working alone, had the firearm waved in his face.

The manager of Scoff's Cafe, next door to Coral, is worried about the rise in this type of crime in the town, following an armed robbery, with crowbars and sledgehammers at Tesco, Hathaway Retail Park, on August 15.

Coral in Chippenham raided by gun-wielding armed robber

Donna Davies said: “This sort of thing seems to be happening more and more in Chippenham now.

"Some people are starting to get scared as robberies are becoming more prevalent in our town.

“I feel for the worker in Coral as that would be a terrifying situation to be in.

“Some people don’t want to go into town on Fridays and Saturdays anymore for fear that something will happen to them.

“I’m not too worried that it will happen to us though, we don’t really hold enough money to be a target."

The robber, who is still on the run, was captured by CCTV footage and can be seen in a black jacket with a large hood.
