South Swindon MP and Justice Secretary Robert Buckland has been slammed on Twitter for joining prime minister Boris Johnson’s cabinet.

MP Nick Boles, now an independent after leaving the Conservative Party, went on a tweeting spree about his political career and the current state of government.

He said: “Some former colleagues in the Conservative Party are angry about my criticisms of Hancock, Morgan and Buckland for agreeing to serve in Johnson’s cabinet despite their long standing and vocal opposition to a no-deal Brexit.

“I make no apology for it, and have every intention of saying what I think about those who have swallowed lifelong political principles to support the man who is turning the Conservative Party into an English nationalist part and threatening everything I love about my country.

“The course they have chosen leads to what some call a successful political career. I disdain it. The only point of politics is to fight for your country, your constituents and your beliefs.

“Power with no principle or purpose is contemptible.

“My political career will almost certainly end, in failure, at the next election, I can live with that.

“What I could not live with is feeling that I had stood by while thoroughly bad men like Johnson and Corbyn do great harm to this country.”

Mr Buckland was approached but said he will not be commenting on what was said at this time.
