The Workshed in the town centre’s renovated Carriage Works is full of new businesses.

Several of them, including have benefited from involvement in Switch On To Swindon’s work, including the new TechSwindon campaign.

Bravedog is the oldest company in the building, having started 10 years ago before rebranding three years ago.

Managing director Nick Prescott founded the company. He said: “There are a lot of start-ups in here, some little more than a year old, so while I couldn’t comment on Swindon as a whole, people here have not been put off from setting up a new business.

“I would advise people looking to start up a new business to get advice from people like us who have established companies in Swindon.

“It’s useful to reach out and learn from people that have been and done it all already.

“There is lots of help available from Business West and official bodies, though you can learn just as much from people that are living it as from the organisational side.

“I don’t think there’s ever a good time to start a business, to be honest. People get too hung up on worrying about the political climate or the possibility of a recession.

“You just need to get on with it because if you just sit and wait, it will probably never happen. Have faith in yourself, get support and advice and then you’re on your way.”
