A ROW has broken out over poor parking habits on a Park South street.

Pauline Holman, who lives on Walton Close, says visitors to the Polish Community Centre opposite her house block the whole road and make it impossible for her to leave.

But Wojtek Sosinski, the general manager of the community centre, argues that it is the neighbours who are flooding the area with too many cars.

Pauline told the Adver: “One of our neighbours has given up bringing their car round because if he parks there, he gets blocked in.

“He complained before and he’s been here for 50-odd years, since the houses were built.

“We’ve complained (to the council) and nothing ever seems to get done.”

Pauline added: “My mother is in her 80s, she lives in Gloucester. I need 24-hour access to the road. If the phone goes, I need to get to her.

“If the centre has a party going on, they park half on the road, half on the pavement, you struggle to get in and out of the street.

“It’s disheartening, we just feel like we’re banging our heads against the wall.”

When asked what she would like to see added to the road to help try and deal with the situation, Pauline added: “We’re asking for double yellow lines on the other side of the road to stop them parking on that pavement.

“They don’t tend to park on our side of the road, so getting double yellow lines on that side won’t upset any of the residents

“It would solve part of the problem because they’ll think twice about going over the lines to park on the pavement.

“But they don’t care and when you ask them to move you get verbal abuse,” Pauline claimed.

“They don’t realise we’re the residents and we have to put up with it.”

Wojtek says the blame lies at the door of those living nearby for having too many vehicles and putting dropped kerbs in front of their houses.

He said: “They have three cars each, and they complain because they made dropped kerbs, meaning they take away spaces for cars.

“Then we’re not allowed spaces because we block them in, then they complain.

“The community centre has existed for 65 years, these neighbours have come in the last three, four years. Before we had old people and they never complained because they didn’t have three cars per house.

“That’s the problem, everyone has a car. I can’t do anything.

Wojtek is hoping to provide more parking at the facility in the future.

“We’re planning to make a big parking space on the grass outside but we need £10,000,” he added: “We will try our best, if it works we’ll make bigger parking spaces.

“We can’t make everybody happy.

“It’s a shame that there are these complaints and I feel bad for them but you know this place is here when you buy the house.”

He added: “There’s nothing I can do.”
