AN OVERTURNED trailer on the M4 Westbound has been recovered.
Two lanes were closed between Junction 16 and 17 but have now been reopened.
The tailbacks had reached six-miles and were causing travel times of up to 90 minutes.
The congestion had started to create issues for Swindon's roads with areas of Freshbrook and Toothill feeling the impact.
A motorist caught in the congestion at 5.05pm said: "It's absolutely manic. It's very slow, I've been in this for 45 minutes and it's stop-start. I got on at Junction 16 at 4.20pm and I've not even passed Royal Wootton Bassett yet, there's still 15 miles to go before I reach Chippenham."
Roads should now be returning to normal.
