Fulcher had no choice

Let me correct Jeff Adams (SA, September 30) on a few issues regarding his letter.

I seem to have watched the programme A Confession and nothing else according to him. Let me assure him that I knew people personally involved in this matter. I saw with my own eyes the pain that a monster like Christopher Halliwell leaves behind in the anguish of the people left to grieve.

Let me also assure him that I was well aware Steve Fulcher resigned. I stand by saying he was hounded out. If this week’s episode was factual, and remember the liberal elite would jump at the chance to challenge it in the courts if it was not, Steve Fulcher was left with no choice but to leave the police force.

If Mr Adams knew anyone who had been a victim of this creature – God forbid – I wonder if he would be so keen on human rights as he appears to be at present, and would he have written a similar letter as he did on September 30?

I will let the readers decide for themselves on that one. Finally if ladies in Swindon who want to get home safely at night cannot trust a taxi driver, who can they trust ?

People are appalled

On the day the letter containing the names of 92 politicians, activists and campaigners appeared in the Swindon Advertiser (September 28), calling for a more tempered language in the Brexit debate, various media outlets reported that Boris Johnson’s chief adviser Dominic Cummings admitted he his enjoying the febrile atmosphere that has been caused by Brexit.

While he may be enjoying the febrile political atmosphere, millions of people in the Uk are appalled at the nature of debate we have seen of late in Parliament.

The belligerence and the goading shown by PM Johnson towards opposition MPs is the behaviour one could expect to see from extreme right-wing street movements we see marauding through the towns and cities across the UK

Seat should be vacated

I THINK that any MP or councillor who crosses the floor during the life of a Parliament to join another party, or become an independent, should trigger a by-election in the constituency or ward.

It would then allow the voter to decide what they feel should happen at the time.

To do this I think it should be brought into law, either by a by-law or through the state.

Right royal waste

The Metropolitan’s Police overseas travel costs have rocketed.

Globe-trotting royals have been blamed for the huge rise.

New figures published by the London Mayor’s Office reveal the amount paid by Scotland Yard for flights and hotel rooms was £6.6 million last year, up from £3.3 million in 2016.

At a time when community policing has been decimated and violent crime is at such high levels, it is truly staggering that such significant amounts of public money are being spent on them.

If they are so well loved by the public why do they need protection? Why can’t they provide their own security? Especially since the Queen receives a third of a billion pounds a year. That would release more police officers onto the streets to combat rising crime.
