"Oh, it'll just be a small wedding."

If that's your plan, then Swindon Borough Council have just the place.

The authority has done up one of its registrar's rooms at the Euclid Street Registry Office.

And it would be quite the place for an intimate ceremony.

Very intimate

It'll fit the registrar, the happy couple, and the legally necessary pair of witnesses.

And that's about it, apart from the table for flowers.

The council has tweeted that for those looking for a small affair the room "could be just what you’re looking for.

"You and your partner can marry in front of two witnesses for only £57."

Which seems a bargain, given the average spend on weddings these days being many thousands of pounds.

And if there's just the four of you, you could probably get away with the whole thing; ceremony, reception, and taxi home for £200 tops.

More seriously, the venue would be suitable for those couples from non-Christian faiths who have to have their marriage legally registered, and who then have a religious ceremony and reception elsewhere.
