HONDA Logistics UK promised to support workers affected by the impending closure of its Swindon base.

The company employs a total of 950 permanent and temporary staff to supply parts to Honda Manufacturing.

Honda Manufacturing announced in February that it will close its South Marston factory in 2021, putting 3,500 jobs at risk.

A Honda Logistics UK spokesman said: “ Following this announcement, HLUK entered into consultation with its workforce.

"During this consultation process, the company investigated new business opportunities, no viable options were found.

"HLUK will now plan to close its operations in line with HUM, in the summer of 2021.

“We will continue to work closely with Unite the Union and employee representatives to support associates during this difficult period.”

The logistics company is independent of Honda's European operations and is a subsidiary of Honda Logistics Japan, which broke the news of the closure on Monday evening.
