THE first zero waste shop which aims to eliminate all packaging from shopping has officially opened in Trowbridge town hall.

Set up by Leyla Bakali-Laughton of Francis Street, the shops sells herbs, spices and other food which are given out in recyclable bags and jars.

Customers are encouraged to bring their own containers to stock up on their favourite eco-friendly treats.

Miss Bakali-Laughton said: "We have been so bust for out first week it has been great, I don't know how else to possibly describe it.

"As we have all heard in the media recently, our country has declared a climate emergency and it is our responsibility as businesses and individuals to really pave the way to help protect our climate.

"One of the most effective ways to have a quick impact is reducing the amount of packaging we purchase our household goods in."

The zero waste shop is open Monday- Saturday 10am-4pm.
