SIXTEEN cubs from seven Packs across the Wiltshire West District Cub Scouts took part in the annual Chess Tournament earlier this month.

The tournament on Sunday, October 6 was held at Melksham Scout HQ and ran throughout the day with the Cubs playing six games each.

All of the Cubs gained their Hobbies Activity Badge during the event.

The District Shield was won by Southwick & North Bradley Cub Ian Gordon. In second place was Lyra Smith from Melksham ‘Slindon’ and in third place from 1st Bowerhill was Oliver Cowles.

Wiltshire West District Commissioner Chris Broom said: "The day was very competitive and the second and third places were decided by a play off.

"The winner and runners up all received a medal and all participants received a certificate."

Mrs Broom was assisted by several Leaders and parents and the tournament was once again a great success and enjoyed by everyone.
