DRIVERS will need to find an alternative route through part of Trowbridge this afternoon, after an accident outside the school gates at Newtown Primary closed the road to traffic.
A Ford Galaxy and a VW Crafter van have collided, with two fire appliances called to the scene and paramedics treating the elderly man at the wheel of the Galaxy for what is understood to be a chest injury.
Initial reports suggest the Ford was coming out of Wesley Road, near to the pedestrian crossing outside the school, while the van was travelling along Newtown.
The road is likely to be closed for some time, which will affect school buses serving At Augustine's College and John of Gaunt School, as well as parents doing the school run to collect children from all schools in the area.
