TWO popular restaurants have reopened in Marlborough.
After a nine-month run in Marlborough’s Kingsbury Street which saw Kitchen Sisters become Trip Advisor’s number one rated burger restaurant in Wiltshire, the county’s best burgers are moving to the High Street.

Karl Lloyd, 56, and his girlfriend Lesia Weremijenko, 55, from Woodborough took over The Bear pub kitchen to open their gourmet burger restaurant on October 30.

They will be serving the same selection of handmade burgers that have gained them a loyal following from as far away as Swindon and many of Marlborough’s surrounding villages.

Mr Lloyd, who runs front of house, said: “It’s been going fantastic. We were rated top burger restaurant in Wiltshire so everyone was happy about that. We had a limited time in the previous restaurant, so we were looking for other venues for some time before settling on The Bear. Its been incredibly busy but we’re excited to open.

“Our burgers don’t taste like other burgers, we make them fresh on the day. Our buns are homemade too which many top end places claim they’re doing but they actually aren’t. It’s simple food but people’s response has been that it’s the best burger they have ever tasted.

All 16 of their staff are moving across with them to the new venue so they can recreate their previous restaurant.

“My girlfriend works as chef in the kitchen, I have to get her to take her apron off and go to the restaurant to hear some of the great feedback otherwise she doesn’t get to hear how incredible it is.

“We serve really fab veggie and vegan options too. They they have as much attention as the meat option which we are proud of.

“A lot of people say it’s the best one they have ever had.

“We had so much fun at Kingsbury Street and met so many wonderful people. We will be forever grateful for their enthusiasm and love for what we do. We couldn’t have hoped for a better start to our journey.”

There has also been another reopening of Dan’s restaurant. They have moved to The Crown, which had previously been closed for over two years and opened on Friday.
The team had moved from Coles where they had been for 19 years then on London Road.

Owner Dan Bond, 45, from Marlborough has moved with the original staff and is serving modern English cuisine with a bar menu.
He said “The opportunity came up to take over The Crown and it’s where I wanted the restaurant to be for a long time even back when Cole’s closed, as I used to drink here.

“It’s a nice place to be with a bar and function room that we would like to be offering people the chance to use soon. “The menu is very similar to what we had before and we are looking at adding a bar menu with our traditional small plates too that we’re known for.

“Because we have that space here which we didn’t have before we will be open all day.

“So far the reopening has been very busy and positive. We can’t please everyone but we will try our best.”
