A WOMAN fears she could be left homeless after the council offered what she claims is a drug den as a new home.

Naomi Little, who suffers from scoliosis and lung problems, has to leave her former base in Aldborough Close.

But when the 21-year-old turned to the council to find a new home, she says it offered her accommodation in a self-contained unit attached to a shared house in Westlea.

Naomi says on a visit to the property, she found drug paraphernalia, plug sockets hanging off the wall and a layout that wasn’t suitable for her condition. She has turned it down and has to leave her current home next week.

“There were drug needles and syringes all over the floor," said Naomi.

"I’m worried that if people are smoking something in that house it could come into my room and make me really sick.”

According to Naomi, it was the only place the council offered.

She added: “I’d like them to find me some accommodation where I can go and feel safe.”

Alongside the drug worries, she is worried about access other tenants might have to her flat.

“In the bedroom, there’s a door that connects to the main house. That door has had the handle taken off it because the other tenants were trying to get into the room.

“All they’ve done is taken the door handle off and say that it’s safe and secure but it’s not.

“I’m a vulnerable 21-year-old girl in a wheelchair, it’s not exactly safe and suitable for me to go there.”

Naomi is not just to worried about herself. She fears she will be separated from her beloved dog Princess because of tenancy rules meaning no pets are allowed.

“She’s basically my therapy dog,” she said. “And the council are trying to separate us. I’m being told she has to go.

“If I take my dog to the new house I’ll then be kicked out because it will violate my tenancy agreement.

But then they won’t find me accommodation where I can take my dog.”

A spokesman for the council said: “We will always try to help tenants overcome any housing difficulties they might have.

"In this case, Ms Little has been asked to move out of her current home due to her behaviour.

“But as she is already barred from the housing register, she has limited options with regards to accommodation.

“Despite this, the council will continue to work with her to source alternative accommodation that is suitable for her needs.”

Naomi responded: “I have done everything the council have asked me to do and I don’t get myself involved in any anti-social behaviour.”

She added that she is banned from the housing register due to arrears from her previous home, which she insists she is paying back.
