CONCERNS about increased traffic on the A4 and rural roads have been voiced by locals after the Ramsbury Estate announced plans to turn barns into industrial units.
The large estate wants to attract rural companies to rent the spaces. The application says: “Realistically, other than residential, a conversion of this range of buildings to employment is the only viable alternative use. It is better close to where businesses operate, rather than require them to be on an industrial area further away.”
Stuart Swift lives in Wootton Rivers and is a member of Extinction Rebellion. He said: This location is very poorly connected to public transport, meaning people will have no choice but to drive, contravening the council’s own pledge to reduce emissions.”
Karin Miller of Great Bedwyn said: “The speed is quite worrying and the potential danger of trucks, delivery vehicles, vans and cars turning into the farm buildings and onto the A4 opposite Harrow Farm is just an accident waiting to happen.” A planning decision is due this week.
