WHY walk when you can skip is the motto at a Devizes infant school where youngsters are keeping fit with the fun form of exercise.

Southbroom Infants held a skipping festival after being inspired to take up the challenge during a visit by Skippy John organised by the Skipping4Life campaign.

PE teacher Gillian Walsh said: "Skipping is one of the best and most fun forms of exercise which can be done almost anywhere and at Southbroom Infants, we wanted to build skipping into almost everything we do.

"At the beginning of term Skippy John introduced skipping to us and showed us different ways of skipping.

"All term, we have been skipping with ropes, long ropes and elastics in our PE lessons and during our playtimes."

The culmination was the skipping festival which celebrated the hard work put in by the children and included a skipping assault course, skipping to rhymes and music and a challenge to see how many children could skip on the long rope at the same time.
