A NEW cafe which opened in Trowbridge last month is attempting to combat loneliness in the elderly with weekly Golden Years afternoons.
Stage Door Cafe on Stallards Street is a musical cafe based on the theatre and will soon be running sessions on a Tuesday afternoon for elderly members of the community to come along for discounted cream ea and bingo.
Owner Julian Mortimer says he hopes it will be a great winter activity.
He said: “Many older people just don’t attempt to come out in the cold and dark evenings.
“So by holding this afternoon session we hope people will come along and meet others.
“There is a lady who lives near me who is in her 80’s and struggles to get out, so I thought of dedicating an afternoon to older members of the community. We are level so there is no stairs and is easily accessible.
“We are hoping to launch the Golden Years afternoon in the next couple of weeks.”
