The Brexit Party will have no candidates standing locally in the December election.

Leader Nigel Farage told all candidates standing in Conservative-held constituencies to stand down, including Swindon North and South.

Here’s what you said on Facebook:

Phil Paton: “I suspect it’s a thought-out strategy, where the Brexit Party need to focus their attention is the Labour-held constituencies where they voted leave.

“Most Labour voters will not vote Conservative, but they do feel betrayed by Labour blocking Brexit so would vote for the Brexit Party.

“When 60 per cent of Labour-held seats voted leave, I can see it’s a real possibility that Labour will not even be the opposition party after the election, I suspect the Lib Dems could become the opposition.”

Doreen Sibley: “He knows he doesn’t stand a chance.”

Jozef Kordula: “Depressing, looks inevitable that it will be a Tory majority, much to the detriment of the country.”

Matthew Pearce: “It’s a betrayal of the electorate by reducing choice, although Swindon MPs are Brexit supporters, so I guess it doesn’t matter.”

Mark Bye: “Brexit Party is a joke. A pointless party.”

Martin Costello: “Country before party.

“Let’s hope Boris sticks to his word and there will be no political alignment with the EU.

“If he does betray us, the Tories will be consigned to the political dustbin.

“Buckland and Tomlinson will be able to sleep easier tonight, I may even help their campaign to ensure Labour get the punishment they deserve for turning their backs on the working class.”

Marcus Kittridge: “So the anti-establishment, anti-elite Brexit Party does a deal with the elite establishment party in order to make sure Corbyn’s anti-establishment party doesn’t get in.

“Good work Nigel and Boris.”

Pat Cole: “I suggest a few people read Nigel Farage’s explanation. It makes perfect sense.

“Anything to stop Labour and the other anti-democratic morons.”

Sharon Matthews: “I guess Nigel wants the public to vote for Boris and his rubbish deal.”

Ron Bateman: “I always knew that Farage would ultimately sell-out his supporters.

“Having stated only last week that Johnson’s deal was worse than remaining in the EU, he’s now doing all he can to get it over the line. Easily the worst possible outcome for everyone.”

Denise Saunders: “Shoot me but I truly believe politics is all a smokescreen.

“I have 0 per cent belief in democracy. They just let us think we have choices. Lost faith in this world, sad but true.”

Keith Huckfield: “Surely if they thought they were the best party for the job, they would contest every seat?”

Angie Lewis: “Great news. A split vote and Corbyn sneaking in would have been a disaster. Now let’s hope he takes loads of Labour seats up north.”

Robert Griffin: “They should abandon sitting in any area. A vote for them is a vote waster. Would never go for a single-policy party.”

Graeme Reynolds: “I am sure that the peerage he was offered 48 hours before his U-turn has absolutely nothing to do with this.

“Bought and sold. Farage and Johnson showing yet again how utterly corrupt they are. The country deserves so much better.”

Roger Higgs: “Well I’m not voting, the Tories want to stay in the EU.”

Julie Cleaver: “Well we best get the Tories out also.”

Ken Woolley: “I have always voted Tory, but because of Nigel Farage’s actions I will vote Labour.”

Martin Perry: “The man setting the agenda, the man making the headlines, is the man with no MPs at Westminster.

“If that isn’t unaccountable power then what is? Worrying times.”

Linda Holiday: “The Remoaners won’t like it.”
