POLICE on patrol in Walcot arrested two young people after chasing a stolen moped.

Officers from Swindon Community Policing Team working together with volunteer special constables responded to concerns from members of the public made on Tuesday evening.

They conducted foot patrols on Buckhurst Field and saw youths on a stolen moped.

Police detained one of the youths after the moped skidded on wet grass while the other was detained a short distance away after attempting to flee on foot.

The pair, who cannot be named because of their age, have been taken into custody at Gablecross Police Station and charged. They will appear in court.

Further enquiries by police located another two suspected stolen mopeds.

PS Watts said “As local residents will know, youths acting in an antisocial way on mopeds has been problematic in the area for some time.

"This is a positive result in removing three of those mopeds from the streets and the action taken against those riding the mopeds should be a deterrent for others.

"Anyone with any further information should report this on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers 0800 555111”
