AN angling club had to close until further notice after vandals damaged a lake.

Expensive fishing platforms have been destroyed at Mouldon Hill Country Park, causing thousands of pounds of damage.

Club secretary Danny Gray said incidents at the lake include padlocks filled with glue and oiled poured into the lake.

Here’s what you told us on Facebook and in the comments on the Adver’s website...

Kevin Webb: “It’s about time we brought back national service, so youngsters can be taught respect.

“Sadly we have lost all discipline in this country, this action would also get them off drugs as well.

“Swindon is now becoming an awful place to live.

“The railway group near Cricklade keep suffering problems as well. We must stop this.”

Felicity Page: “That’s awful for the angling club and I hope the wildlife that live in and around the lake are ok.

“Mouldon is such a lovely place and whoever’s caused the damage has spoiled it for so many people.

“Shame on them and I hope the police catch them.

“When did people become so disrespectful of others?”

Trevor Morris: “Invest in a motion camera – that’s the only way to catch them.”

Dave Pinner: “We had our swims destroyed at Lawns too. Members put in a lot of hard work and effort let alone to mention free time to make the area better for everyone, police do nothing.”

Maria Phillips: “Things that are happening around Swindon are very worrying.

“No respect for anything or anyone. Something needs to be done, but I have no idea what.”

Horatio Roman: “That lake and the park itself is the subject of frequent attacks from mindless teenagers.”

Marley Beans: “The fact parents don’t know where their kids are in Swindon is a big concern. Oil poured into the water? Disgusting.

“Animal abuse surely. I think CCTV should be put up at the main access points, for the future.

“People who cause damage like this should be made to pay for the repair, even if they are under 18 and their parents have to pay up.

“Please start raising your kids right. Please make sure they are considerate and respectful and at the least not little psychos ruining nature, wildlife and an area that clearly used for a group and a community however boring fishing is.”

Jon Gunter: “What sort of idiot would do this, I hope whoever did this gets prosecuted.”

Diane Tomes: “I hope they are found and named, it's disgusting. I really don’t understand people who do this sort of thing.”

Simon Bogulak: “How would these kids react if their property was vandalised. Find them and make them repair the damage.

“This generation is becoming the most hated and they wonder why.”

Malinda Johnson: “There’s always one that spoils it for the rest.”

Sheryl Guess: “What a horrible thing to do.”

‘DilligafManor’: “Sadly it would appear that an adult or adults are responsible for the damage caused to the platforms.

“ Power tools appear to have been used to destroy the fishing platforms so more likely a targeted attack not mindless vandalism.

“Oil being poured into the water surely constitutes an act of animal cruelty too for the resident wildlife?

“ I hope the person or persons responsible are caught and dealt with accordingly.”
