A 40-year-old man from Warminster has been arrested on drugs offences after a police stop and search check.

Officers stopped a car about which they had suspicions in Warminster and found drugs in the vehicle.

Around 1pm on Tuesday, police stopped the white Audi A1 on Highbury Park in the town.

During their checks they could smell cannabis coming from the vehicle. Officers then carried out a search finding a quantity of cannabis and suspected cocaine.

The driver, a 40-year-old local man, was arrested and a search of his address discovered quantities of cannabis and suspected cocaine along with bundles of cash, believed to be multiple thousands of pounds, and a set of scales.

The man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, possession of Class A and B drugs and possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs. He has been released under investigation while police enquiries continue.

Sgt Will Ayres said: "This is an excellent example of good work within the Community Policing Team resulting in a quantity of drugs being removed from the streets of Wiltshire.

"Criminality of this type will not be tolerated and will be targeted through the use of proactive patrols as we continue to take a robust approach towards illegal drug use."
