WILTSHIRE Police have helped to clear up mounds of rubbish and scrap cars and metal on the Westleigh housing estate in Warminster.

They supported Selwood Housing Association and Wiltshire Council Highways and Environment enforcement officers last Thursday (December 5) to remove rubbish from the estate.

The rubbish included large amounts of un-roadworthy vehicles, scrap metal and household waste.

Wiltshire Council said: "We assisted the partnership with the removal of abandoned vehicles while Selwood arranged the clearance of dumped waste and car parts on their land."

PC Helen Daveridge said: “We were able to work together to clear the estate after receiving complaints about large quantities of waste being stored around the estate; causing a health hazard and an eyesore for residents and visitors over a number of months."

She said a team of agencies made every effort to encourage those collecting and fly tipping the items to remove them but unfortunately it had not happened.

“I’d like to thank Selwood officers and Wiltshire Council’s enforcements teams for making this a success and I look forward to working with them again.”

Wiltshire Council launched a new campaign in October to make it easier to report fly tipping.

If you spot someone fly-tipping in Wiltshire, report the offender to us, and as a reward you’ll get a gift voucher of up to £200 following the payment of a Fixed Penalty Notice or a successful prosecution.

“We want to put a stop to fly-tipping, and we need your help to catch the culprits to keep your county cleaner, greener and safer.”
