TWO weeks after Darren Beasley shattered his hip he was back to the gym.

The 31-year-old got the injury in 2017 while playing roller hockey in Surrey.

He was rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for treatment.

And just two weeks later he was back in the the gym. Now he's opened his own – Shedded Fitness – in Wootton Bassett.

He said: “I was playing roller hockey and we had two minutes left. I started rollerblading down and I crashed into the barrier knee first. It shattered my hip but my recovery was incredible.”

“I went straight back to working out and got myself back to a good standard. I’ve always really wanted to open my own gym but this helped me make that move and then I started buying equipment and looking for a warehouse.”

Darren and his partner Emmaline Richards, 28, opened what is the first 24-hour gym in Bassett at Bowman Court.

Emmaline said: “I supported him because it’s what he wanted to do. It was quite hard work to get where it is now.

“It was just unbelievable and I’m very proud of him the determination he showed after he broke his hip, it was amazing.”

It took two years for the couple to get permission and then to start building it but they were completely committed.

Darren told the Adver: “I used to be quite overweight, I was about 24 stone and I had to get fitter for my health.

“Ever since then I’ve been really into fitness and it creates a mindset that you feel like you can do anything. After I had the surgery I decided I should just do it.

“I came up with the name Shedded Fitness because we used to have the equipment in my shed and we’d workout there.”

They put on an opening day to celebrate the first day. Around 40 people turned up and helped raise £270 for homeless shelter Threshold.

And more than 150 signed up within the first week of opening.

Emmaline told the Adver: “Its just been phenomenal, the response has been crazy. People who had come on the day told me that they really liked the place.”
